Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about how HomeJourney works, how we score contractors, and our editorial independence.
Why are sponsors on a separate page? ▼
We never interrupt your reading with ads. Sponsor listings live only on the Sponsors page, which you visit by choice. Service providers genuinely are useful and discoverable — the point is that you decide if and when to see who supports the site, rather than having them placed in the middle of guides or program listings.
How is 'Top-Rated' calculated? ▼
Each contractor carries a transparent Reputation Score (0–100) computed only from third-party signals: the contractor's review rating and review volume (from the source shown on each listing), years in business, and state license status where Kentucky licenses the trade. HomeJourney does not rate or endorse contractors itself — it reports what public sources say. The model is versioned (currently v1.0), and each listing shows the date its rating was recorded.
Is HomeJourney free? ▼
Yes — completely free for homebuyers. No account, no paywall, and no sign-up required to use the guides, down-payment program listings, calculators, or contractor directory.
Are you a lender, real estate agent, or financial advisor? ▼
No. HomeJourney is an independent educational resource. We are not a lender, mortgage broker, real estate agent, or financial advisor, and we receive no referral compensation from any lender, contractor, or program administrator. Program details change — always verify terms directly with the administering agency and consult qualified professionals before making financial decisions.
Do you sell my data? ▼
No. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. The site uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used so we can improve it; that analytics data is processed by Google under their privacy terms. We never sell your data or use it to target you with ads.
